Use your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control your TV or receiver
Learn how to control power, volume, and more with your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote.

Before you begin
With the Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote that shipped with your Apple TV (4th generation), you can control certain functions on your television or receiver.
Follow steps based on whether your TV or receiver supports HDMI-CEC (HDMI Consumer Electronics Control). If you aren't sure, check the manual or contact the manufacturer of your TV or receiver.

If your television or receiver offers HDMI-CEC support
With HDMI-CEC support on your television or receiver, your Apple TV (4th generation) should automatically set up your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote. Then you can use your remote for the following:
Adjust the volume on your television or receiver.
Turn on your television or receiver and switch to the correct HDMI input when you wake your Apple TV.
Turn off your television or receiver when you put your Apple TV to sleep.
If you want to disable any of these functions, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices on your Apple TV (4th generation).

If your television or receiver doesn't offer HDMI-CEC support
Your Apple TV (4th generation) should automatically set up your remote to control volume on your television or receiver, even without HDMI-CEC support.
If volume control doesn't work, check that nothing blocks the path between your remote and the front of your television or receiver. If you still need help, follow these steps:
On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control.
Select Learn New Device.
Then follow the onscreen steps to program your remote to control volume for your television or receiver.
